Happy Valentine's Day!! I remember Valentine's Day was very special when I was a young girl in school. There was always a beautiful Valentine box made of lace and hearts made by the teacher or a group of students. We would put our Valentines in the box and later in the day they were pulled out and passed out. It seems to me that Valentines were prettier then than they are now and of course weren't nearly as expensive. Sometimes we even had books where Valentines were cut out and made. It was a fun and artsy time for children. I interviewed several people and asked them what they remembered about Valentines as a child. Most of them remember the same things I did. Wilbur Maney said he didn't think they had Valentine's Day in the mountains where he lived. .One Valentine's Day when I was teaching I had students make Valentines for the Veterans Hospital patients. One little boy wrote on his Valentine: "I hop you will get bitter soon. Get well so you can fight for the U.S.A." .There will be a Senior Lunch on Tuesday, February 19, at 11 a.m. at the Tignall Baptist Church Family Life Center. Bill and Ruth Kortrey brought her a beautiful hydrangea. Frances is doing a little better and is now in a back brace for a while to see if that helps her back. .Well, there's another birthday that was celebrated last weekend for old man William Rhodes who had his 60th birthday. I can't believe he is so old because I remember when he was a little boy following us around at our grandparents' home. There was a birthday dinner at his home for him Sunday. Honoring him and enjoying dinner with him were Randy and Karen Rhodes, Taylor and Christopher, of Danielsville; Bobby and Maureen Rhodes of Augusta; Betty Reese of Washington; Pat Mack, and Sara Frances Henderson. .Let's keep Frank Turner Jr. in our prayers.
