John Duggan remembered at annual scholarship dinner
Gail and Tom Duggan entertain guests with selections from "I Do, I Do." The Woman's Club was filled to near-capacity for the annual John Duggan Memorial Scholarship Dinner Monday, February 11, at the clubhouse.
The dinner, sponsored by the Washington Woman's Club, honors the memory of John Duggan who lost his life to cancer on November 23, l972, at the age of 18. His mother and Woman's Club member, Mary Johnson Duggan, was present for the evening event.
Proceeds from the evening will go into the scholarship fund and a portion will be awarded to a deserving Wilkes County senior bound for college.
Ninety-four members and guests attended and delighted in the beautiful Valentine décor. Mantels held lighted hurricane globes and Valentine boxes with trailing streamers and parasols adorned the fireplaces. Tables were lighted with hurricane globes. Each place featured a place card with the birth and death date of John Duggan and also listed his many accomplishments throughout his school career.
President Vivian Walker welcomed members and guests and thanked Jason Tanner for catering the delicious meal.
She introduced the program in the absence of Ashley Barnett. Tom and Gail Duggan, accompanied by Sherri Bowers, pianist, presented a musical program singing many selections from the musical "I Do, I Do," they will be performing in May at the Washington Little Theater.
Hostesses were Rachel Arnold, Nancy Farris, Donna Hardy and Paula Suggs.
