I received an e-mail from Madeline Heard Poteet who after reading Pat Mack's grandchild's comments on the "cedar chest" at the cemetery, remembered hearing her dad, Cary Heard, talking about years ago. The comment was attributed to Ann Dunaway (who was my aunt), who upon seeing dirt put over a grave, piped up, "He can't get out now, can he, Daddy?" I had forgotten that, until Madeline reminded me of it, but I had heard about that remark from my daddy. It's good to write down all these cute things kids say. I do. . The North Wilkes Library accepted donations of books last week from Nobie Keener, Ben and Jackie Long, Linda Burns, Donita Hawkins, and Jerri Ann Stewart. The library has some wonderful volunteers. Those volunteers are Sharon Vreeland, Ben Long, Steve Dobbs, Becky Dixon, Cristy Wages, Sherri Bowers, and for story time on Saturdays, Carolyn Gammon and her substitute, Jackie Long. .The three Gammon children, Curt, Kara, and Kaci, children of Craig and Sandra Gammon, chose to be a little different for the Grand Prix Race Sunday. Kara turned her car backwards to race the second time and found it went a little faster, so when Kaci got up to race she turned hers backwards also, then along comes Curt and he chose to race his backwards, too. .Spending a few days last week with Tody and Dave Derrick was their son, Jeff Derrick from the Azores. .Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Keener spent Saturday night at the home of their son, Vince Keener, in Snellville. Joining them for a cookout Saturday night at the home of Vince Keener were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Keener, Madison and Nolan. On Sunday they enjoyed five-year-old Madison's princess birthday party at the Chris Keener home in Loganville. .Diane Nix of Toccoa visited with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ware and Mary Ann Williams Friday. .Price Rogers of Evans spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ware. Karen Rogers had dinner with them on Sunday. .Jeremy Hammonds of Madison spent Saturday with Daisy Parker. He enjoyed being with Daisy and visiting the North Wilkes Library. His mother, Jen Parker Hammonds, came to a shower for Mimi Albea so she visited Daisy after the shower. .Enjoying a chitterling supper in Elberton at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Burton were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Denard, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Hammond, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Aycock, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Tanner, Carroll Burton of Thomson, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Willis and Mr. and Mrs. Fluke Smith of Elberton. Chitterlings and other good things like salads and desserts were served. .I remember my grandfather, Henry Dunaway, sitting at one end of the table eating chitterlings and the rest of us all sitting as far away from him as possible. .Ed Rhodes, Wade Johnson, Gary Butts, and Chris Mack went to Kentucky for a mission project and will return later this week. .Don't forget the "Ladies Night Out" Saturday, March 15, at Tignall Baptist Church. This is going to be a nice dinner with Nancy Burgess as guest speaker. The men of the church will be the servers. Tickets are available from Kay Fincher, Cissy Rogers, or Faye Lamar. .Don't forget the singing with the Dennis Gay family at Beulah Baptist Church Sunday night at 7 p.m. .Let's keep the following people in our prayers: Myrtice Harrison who has had gallbladder surgery and the flu;Ouida Maney who had gallbladder surgery last week; Sara Frances Henderson, who has had a long two weeks of the flu;her sister, Pat Mack, who has broken both of her feet and is confinedto a wheelchair; and Dr. Sophia Bamford who is improving and has been transferred to Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington.
