SFC Willie Bufford retires from Army after 21 years duty

SFC Willie Frank Bufford

Congratulations to SFC Willie Frank Bufford (Pig) who has just retired after seven years of active duty and 21 years of National Guard duty.

SFC Bufford received a plaque from his family for outstanding service that read: Congratulations to SFC Willie Frank Bufford for 28 years of service in the U.S. Army/U.S. National Guard, for your commitment and dedicated service, for a job well done on this date, January 26, 2008.

A celebration dinner was held in his honor at the home of his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Bufford of Tignall. The affair was coordinated and sponsored by his wife Phyllis; his mother, sister's daughters, and many nieces and nephews.

During the many years of service for his country, SFC Bufford traveled to and served in Fort Ord, California, Fort Benning, Georgia, and Germany. He also had training in jungle warfare in Panama, cold weather training in Wisconsin, desert training in Yakima in Washington State, Homeland Security in Maryland, the Georgia summit in Jekyll Island, Georgia, and many other tours of duty at Fort Stewart, Ga.

Among the guests for this special occasion were Sgt. Maj. Tim Jones of Tignall; Cousin Glenda Johnson, Landover Hills, Maryland; Cousins, Charlie and Juanita Norman, Aunt Pecola Bradley, Tignall; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The theme was red, white, and blue, and the family feasted on delicious barbecue and fried chicken, salad, and cake.
