To save hearts all over the county
Wilkes County EMS Director J. Blake Thompson displays four new automatic external defibrillators just received through Region VI EMS federal Rural Health grant. The devices, which trained personnel can use to save heart attack victims, will go all over the county. "The EMS is donating one to the high school and middle school, and one to the new Washington Fire Department Rescue truck. The other two will go to first responders in Rayle and Tignall," Thompson said. "We now have a total of 32 of these life-saving devices in all the county firedepartments, with city police and county deputies, at the jail, and at the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation. That way, these AEDs can be used on victims within four to six minutes, and that greatly increases your survival rate."
