Toxic words are destructive in a small community
      TO THE EDITOR: I'm writing this letter as a consequence of having recently heard some vicious gossip about a friend and neighbor here in Rayle. I know the gossip is untrue and I will not repeat it here or anywhere else. But the comment reminded me of how destructive a few toxic words can be, especially in a small community.

      TO THE EDITOR: Some people think that due to the drought, they should not plant at all. This is not true. Changes in water restrictions now allow more flexibility for homeowners and gardeners. We must not be "drop-wise and bucket foolish," to paraphrase an old saying.

EMA: Tornado warnings are made to save lives
      TO THE EDITOR: Again this week Wilkes County was placed under two different Tornado Warnings. Both of these warning occurred on Saturday afternoon, 5:09 p.m. and 5:32 p.m. It appears that their may still be some confusion over actions which should be taken by the public.
