More Money than Sense

I know a man who sells Gucci tennis shoes and visors as a side line. They may be counterfeit for all I know. And if I had not seen it with my own eyes I would not believe it, but just plain folks, not rich people, actually pay him $250.00 for a pair of Gucci tennis shoes that are probably no better than the old black and white Keds we used to wear in the 1950s that cost $2.98.

What's really tragic is that one fellow bought a pair of these Guccis and another fellow killed him and took his Guccis and sold them to buy drugs. Now, this many sells these over rated shoes and most of his customers buy them with drug money. They also buy Gucci visors from him at $50.00 each. I mean old cheap cloth visors that our family business could have made for probably $2.00 each. Just as good.

Say what you want, but America has gone nuts over name brand and our children are being brainwashed to think that if it's not name brand then it's no good and what makes name brand is advertisement, not necessarily quality. Two-hundred-fifty dollars for a pair of tennis shoes worth about $50.00 is highway robbery. They could have at least had the decency to pull a gun on those poor souls.

The founder of Barnum and Bailey Circus once said, "There's a sucker born every minute." And we as Christians don't need to be identified with that crowd. We are to come out from among them and be a separate people -- a sanctified people. Be in the world, but not of the world. We can't do like the world, live like the world, act like the world, dress like the world, spend like the world, sin like the world and expect to make it to Heaven.

With some churches and missionaries struggling, people all over the world hungry and homeless, small businesses struggling and folks wasting money that way on these fat cats is an all out sin. I don't care who does it and like my grandpa used to say, "They've got more money than they've got sense!" And to that I'll say "Amen."
