I think I do this every year. I put up my winter clothes, take out spring clothes, and along comes Old Man Winter again. Of course the pollen comes along too and all those pretty blooms that cause all kinds of problems. There's a sneeze in every conversation.

• Randy Luke has really spiffed up the parking lot behind the bank. Now the parking lines are slanted when before they were straight. This makes parking much easier. Some people were parking slanted before the lines were changed. When one is in a hurry sometimes one just lands, as I have been guilty of at times.

• I enjoyed the excitement of Little League Day Saturday. The little T-ball players are so much fun to watch. One little boy hit the ball and ran to first base, but he stopped along the way and picked up the ball to hand to the first baseman. Wasn't that thoughtful of him?

• Mr. and Mrs. Graydon Bobo spent the weekend in Bainbridge. As they went through Macon they found the cherry trees there were in full bloom and beautiful.

• Weren't we proud of our Miss Wilkes County, Gracen Ware, when she was interviewed live on Channel 6 Saturday! She didn't hesitate and was not nervous at all when they put that microphone up to her. She did a wonderful job. Gracen will be singing the National Anthem on Thursday night, April 3, at the Farmers Market in Downtown Washington. Gracen and her mom, Cristi, will have a booth for the Little River Team for Relay for Life. I understand there will be entertainment every Thursday night at the Farmers Market. Saturday, April 5, during the Tour of Homes, Gracen, in her antebellum dress will be giving everyone a gracious Southern welcome on The Square in Downtown Washington.

• Speaking of interviews, I saw the interview of another Tignall celebrity Saturday. That was Tyrekus "A.J." Bowman who played in the Division II National Championship game (basketball). He answered questions and then he said, "Hey, all you people in Tignall, and I love you Mama." Now I know his mom was proud. Of course everyone in our community is so very proud of A.J. The headline in the sports section of The Augusta Chronicle said "Senior Bowman still winner after losing championship." It was stated that he finished his career with 1,827 points. He is second in all-time scoring at Augusta State. A.J. is the son of Aaron and Melissa Bowman.

• Mr. and Mrs. Dave Barney of Concord, Mass., spent about two weeks here in the Garrett homeplace. Many of you remember Mrs. Barney (Beverly Garrett) who grew up in Tignall.

• Betty Nix of Clarkesville spent Monday and Monday night with Mary Ann Williams. She also visited with Donald and Peggy Ware while she was here.

• Scott, Kathy and Stacey Ware went to Sandersville Friday for the wedding of Mimi Albea and Chris Rogers which was on Saturday. Scott was one of the ushers. Others from Tignall attending the wedding in Sandersville were Donald and Peggy Ware, Roger and Vivian Walker, Rose Ware, and the Jerome Wilson family.

• Marion and Tony Hammond are quite into hosting dinner parties or lunches. This time they hosted a cousins get-together for Marion's Burton cousins. Last Saturday there was lunch at the home of Tony and Marion with all bringing their favorite dishes. Those attending were Carroll Burton and Rebecca Reese of Thomson; Gene and Phyllis Burton, Jerry and Diane Self, and Bobby Burton, all of Elberton. Those from Washington were Lawrence, Jimmy, and Allen Burton; and those from Tignall were Mary Will Denard, Tony Burton and Joe and Debbie Burton. After the delicious lunch they updated their family history with correct names and dates.

• The town of Tignall extends sincere sympathy to Albert and Eudora Huyck. Eudora's brother-in-laaw, George Dixon of Elbert County, passed away last week. We also extend sympathy to Jerry and Louise Wilson and Pat Winfree. Pat's mom and Louise's grandmother, Vena Mize of Jackson, S.C., passed away last week. Rev. Dale Fincher officiated with this funeral. We extend sympathy to the family of Geri Wilson Austin of Richmond Hill, formerly of Athens. She was the daughter of the late Hubert Wilson and Laura Jackson Wilson of Athens. Her full military funeral was in Athens on Sunday. Cousins, Bobby, Mike, Pat, and Tim Jackson were pallbearers. We extend sympathy to Louise Denard. Her cousin, Harold Ruff of Winder, passed away last week.

• Let's remember Mary Thurmond in our prayers as she has been hospitalized in Augusta. Also remember Joan Baker as she has pneumonia. Let's also keep Mary Ann Williams in our prayers as she has had more eye surgery and had lots of problems with her eyes.

• Mallorysville Baptist Church has started Mission Friends at their church which will be during the worship service every Sunday. This is for children in the first through third grades.

• Reading about chinaberry trees in last week's News-Reporter brought back fond memories of chinaberry trees at homes of both my grandparents. It seems that everybody's grandma or grandpa had one for the grandchildren to play in. That was the only kind of tree I could climb since they were kind of squatty and had low branches. Now my sister, Kay Tyler, climbed any kind of tree. I know not many of you would believe this because she seems so dignified since growing up, but if you wished to findKay when she was a child, all you had to do was look up into a tree and there she would be hanging by her feet and legs.

• The North Wilkes Steering Committee has planned a communitywide yard sale and a bake sale at the old Tignall school grounds on Saturday, April 26. This is a good time to do your spring cleaning and findall those things you wish to get rid of that someone else may want. The fee for a spot will be $5. Bring your own tables and pick a spot wherever you wish and anytime you wish to start. If you are there early you can pick the best place. We think you will have more luck with your yard sales if there are many of them going on at the same time. The bake sale will start at 9 a.m. Someone from the committee will be by to collect your fee sometime during the morning.
