Tip nets arrest of known drug dealer; other arrests reported for past month
Working on a tip from a concerned Tignall citizen, Wilkes County deputies recently arrested a man they say is a known drug dealer.
Antonio D. Mercier, 23, of Tignall, who was on probation for a previous drug conviction, was arrested March 14 by Deputies Jamie Bridges and Detrick Jones. "The deputies had an anonymous tip from a Tignall citizen that Mercier was allegedly selling drugs from a brown Cadillac around town," said Investigator Bud Harrison.
Acting on that tip, deputies stopped a car in which Mercier was riding. Bridges noticed a green, leafy substance on Mercier's clothes, and called for a K-9 search. The drug dog, Rocky, reacted positively to the car, and a search revealed about one-half ounce of suspected marijuana packaged for sale.
Mercier was charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and is held on a state probation violation.
"We rely on information from concerned citizens like the folks in Tignall to help us get drug dealers off the street," said Chief Deputy Mike Sisson.
