Funeral services for Geri Wilson Austin of Richmond Hill were held Sunday, March 30, 2008, in the Bernstein Chapel, Athens, with Dr. Stewart B. Simms Jr. and Rev. John Walker officiating. Interment was at Evergreen Memorial Park with full military honors. She died Thursday, March 27.

Mrs. Austin was a native of Elbert County and was the daughter of Laura Jackson Wilson and the late Hubert Eugene Wilson of Athens. She held bachelor and master's degrees from the University of Georgia and earned a Specialist Degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University. She was a physical education and health teacher at Lewis Fraser Middle School in Liberty County. She served 17 years in the Air Force National Guard in units in Ohio, Georgia, and Florida.

Survivors in addition to her mother include a son, Brandon N. Jones and his wife Lisa of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Cathi Wilson Nix of Hull; and two grandchildren, Alayna and Chase Jones.

Pallbearers included Bobby Jackson, Mike Jackson, Pat Jackson, Tim Jackson, Albert Vanhelden, and Jeff Nix.

Bernstein Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of arrangements.
