To raise money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, students at Washington-Wilkes Primary School participated in a Pet Contest. Students and teachers donated a dollar to enter a photo of their pets in the contest. Some students donated several dollars to enter more than one photo. Awards were giving for cutest dog, cutest cat, and most unusual pet. The winners of the contest were announced live on KTV, the school's morning news program. Winning pet owners chose a pet toy or pet bowl decorated by Patty Stewart. All students who entered a photo in the contest received a thank you note. The winner for the smallest pet was Jeannette Dunn and Pee Wee; the largest pet was Brock Jackson's dog, Dooley (top left photo). Cutest dogs (top right) were Bandit, owned by Tyler Callaway and Amber George's dog Bear. Cutest cats (lower left) were BB, owned by R. J. Carnes, and Erin McAvoy's cat, Hudson. Finally, the most unusual pets (lower right) were Tanner Massey's squirrels, Alvin and Theodore, and Dehstiny Smith's fawn, Bambi. All proceeds from the contest will be donated to the Relay for Life.
