Rainy Highway 78 wreck is deja vu all over again
114 In a second crash in as many weeks at almost the same spot, two Athens men are immobilized by Wilkes EMTs as a precaution after their Saturday wreck. After a heavy rain, their SUV skidded, crashed into oncoming traffic, and flipped in to the trees along Highway 78 just beyond the Washington-Wilkes Airport Saturday afternoon. The two had climbed out of the SUV unaided and did not seem to be seriously injured, but were immobilized and transported to Wills Memorial Hospital for examination. Their vehicle had just crossed the road after hitting a patch of standing water, which is common on large stretches of the highway. Two people in the pickup truck with which the SUV collided were examined and one was transported to Wills Memorial. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck. |
