Community invited to hear of programs that help Wilkes PRC inmates re-enter

Members of the community have the opportunity to learn about what the Wilkes Pre-Release Center is doing to provide re-entry training for inmates about to be released.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to invite the community, business leaders, and any other state and county employees," said Ricky Cobb, Superintendent at Wilkes PRC, "to an Introduction to Re-Entry Training. This is a chance for everyone to see what we are doing here at Wilkes PRC and across the state in trying to lower recidivism."

The session is available either Tuesday, April 29, or Wednesday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Jockey Club in Washington.

Speakers for the session include B.J. Blair of the Georgia Department of Corrections Re-entry Services, Mayor Willie Burns and Councilman Maceo Mahoney from the City of Washington, and Commissioner Donna Hardy representing Wilkes County.

The second session will end with a tour of the pre-release facility, Cobb said, to help connect the community with the inmates.

"Prison impacts families, communities and it touches everyone," he said, "so we are actively involved in trying to put a more productive person back into society. Join us for a morning of discussion, training or just to educate yourself about what's going on at Wilkes PRC."
