Alexis Gioia enjoys Wizard of Oz birthday party

Alexis Gioia, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Gioia of Vidalia, celebrated her sixth birthday with a Wizard of Oz party at her home on March 29. Her birthday was March 6.

The party area was decorated with poppy flowers to represent the Land of Oz, posters from the movie, a giant flying monkey, tornados and the legs of the wicked witch with ruby slippers coming from underneath the house.

The children followed the yellow brick road to a giant obstacle course where they could climb, crawl, slide and jump. Guests also enjoyed playing "pin the heart on the tin man" and had turns at the Over the Rainbow piñata.

The children were then treated to a Dorothy cake and ice cream, rainbow goldfish,melted witch punch and "lions and tigers and bears… oh my!" animal crackers.

Before the guests left, Alexis gave each one Lollipop Kid lollipop and Glenda the Good Witch bubbles.

Joining Alexis and her family for her party were Brandy Williams, Mr. and Mrs. David Hodges, Abigail, John David, Daniel and Andrew, Mrs. Marvin Lee, Annie and Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Smith and Briana, Mrs. Terry Thompson and Jacob, all of Vidalia; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wolter, also Reese Rogers, of Washington; and Cede Colbert of Lincolnton.

Prior to this celebration Alexis was honored by her family on a prebirthday vacation in Winter Park, Colo. Alexis chose to celebrate at The Sushi Bar in downtown Winter Park where she was treated to her favorite Asian specialties.

On her birthday Alexis shared gumdrop cupcakes, ice cream and juice with her classmates at Robert Toombs Academy.

That evening Alexis, her parents and brother, Jarrett, celebrated with a special dinner at her home with Wizard of Oz cake and ice cream being served for dessert. Also joining the family were grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wolter of Washington.

Alexis also received a special call from her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Truitt of Lincolnton.
