Teams all over the Washington- Wilkes area are making last-minute preparations for the 2008 Wilkes County Relay for Life which kicks off Friday night at 7. Wilkes County EMS and Rescue 1 personnel help load an injured Frankie Shank into the LifeFlight air ambulance last Thursday after Shank crashed his Yamaha Raptor on Smith Mill Road near Highway 78 in Aonia. Indications at the scene and witnesses say that Shank was approaching the highway at a high rate of speed when he lost control and flipped the vehicle. Shank, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a head injury and was transported by air to the Medical College of Georgia. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck.
