Funeral services for K.D. Stokes, 91, of Washington were held Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Heard's Chapel Baptist Church in Wilkes County with Rev. Henry T. Butler officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. He died April 25 in Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

Mr. Stokes was a native of Wilkes County and was the son of the late Arnold and Julia Stokes. He was educated in the Wilkes County schools. He was a member of the Heard's Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He was also a member of Shiloh Lodge No. 163 and retired from C.E. Mineral Co. He was the widower of Mattie Stokes.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence O'Neal Stokes of Washington; two brothers, Luther Stokes of Thomson and Freeman Stokes of Banning, California; and two grandchildren.

Nieces and Nephews served as flower bearers and casket bearers.

McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
