Reese Booker Scholarship Committee to hold memorial service

REV. HARDEN REV. HARDEN The Reese J. Booker Scholarship Committee will have its annual Reese J. Booker and Rosa Grant Warthen Memorial Service Sunday, May 25, at the Marks Tabernacle Baptist Church, Washington, at 6 p.m.

Pastor Matthew Harden and the New Tabernacle Baptist Church are scheduled to be in charge of the service.

The purpose of the program is the help college students. A scholarship will be given in memory of "Miss Grant."

Pastor Harden is a native of Rayle and is a member of White Rock Baptist Church, Rayle, where Rev. G.L. Avery is his pastor. He is pastor of the New Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lincolnton.

The pastor is a 1985 graduate of Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School. He is a registered Respiratory Therapist and is currently employed by Doctors Hospital in Augusta. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Theology in 2003 from Christian Life School of Theology in Columbus, and his Master of Theology in 2006, graduating magna cum laude.

Harden completed his certificationin pastoral studies, leadership, and administration with the Urban Alternative in Dallas, Texas, founded by Dr. Tony Evans, one of Harden's spiritual mentors.

Harden is married to Burshunda Norman Harden and they have a son, Matthew Norman-Isaac Harden. They live in Augusta.
