Ruth Harris piano students to perform in recital set for Saturday evening at First Baptist Church

Piano students from the studio of Ruth E. Harris will perform in a recital on Saturday evening, May 24, at 7:00 p.m.

The program will be held at the First Baptist Church, Washington, and the public is invited. Fourteen duet teams will perform compositions for four hands at one piano, and students will play piano solos as well. Selections will be from the various periods of music history. These include the Baroque (1600-1750), Classical (1750-1820), Romantic (1820-1900), and the Contemporary Period (1900-Present).

This year, special emphasis has been given to the piano pieces of the American composer Robert D. Vandall with some 15 of his compositions being performed. Vandall and his works are expected to be the key feature at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) In-Service Conference in 2009, with one whole day, January 30, being designated "Robert Vandall Day." He is scheduled to give numerous lectures and master classes at the convention, and as America's "very own," has specialized in creating inspiring virtuosic compositions for the young pianist.

Students expected to perform are Alex Thomas, Lykah Mora, Christina Albertson, Samantha Wheatley, Morgan Sherrer, Will Price, Andrea Hill, Zachary Hill, Emily Beggs, Anna Beggs, Joey Lawrence, Christie Lawrence, Ciara Meadows, Jake Derry, Adam Rutkowski, Ian Coe, Andrew Wilbur, Katie Trimm, Brittany Guin, Joseph Greer, Catie Greer, Genevieve Coe, Troy Colvard, Mikki Wright, and Ben Danner.
