Church shoppers and hoppers
Nowadays folks shop for churches like they're shopping for groceries -- hopping here and there trying to choose a brand of church that suits their fancy and I'm not talking about those who are called to go out and minister.
They need to make themselves available and not sit off in a corner somewhere. Now, some folks like the name brand church. Others like the bargain brand so to speak. Which reminds me of an elderly gentleman who told me he switched churches because the dues were less at the other church. I think he meant that at the other church he left they took up a lot of offerings. Maybe!
Anyway, folks nowadays say, "I go to the big church. They've got the best preacher and the best minister of music." Well, no matter where you go shopping for better and best, there's always better somewhere else to hear it told.
Years ago we didn't think about all of that. We didn't come to church to worship man or exalt man, but rather to worship and exalt God.
The oldtime preachers used to say, "Now, let's get our minds right on the Lord." And that's good advice for the church shoppers and hoppers. Can you say amen?
