Nine Wilkes County students honored at Briarwood Academy Upper Elementary
Nine Wilkes County students were honored during Briarwood Academy's Upper Elementary School Honors Day program for third, fourth, and fifth graders on the final day of the 2007-2008 school year. Included were (first row, l-r) Andrea Hill, Alli Bennett, India Callaway, (second row) Austin Hardy, Ty Gunter, Lathan Roberson, Justin Tucker, Jonathan Davidson, and (not pictured) Hunter Callaway. Nine Wilkes County students were honored during the Briarwood Academy Upper Elementary School Honors Day program on May 15. The program honored third, fourth, and fifth graders for outstanding academic achievement.
Fourth grader Andrea Hill qualified to and participated in the prestigious Duke University Talent IdentificationProgram (TIP). The program recognizes talented students in the fourth and fifth grades who scored at the 90th percentile or above on a grade level standardized achievement, aptitude or mental ability test.
Fifth grader Justin Tucker and fourth grader Andrea Hill were among the 12 fourth and fifth grad- ers who were selected to receive the President's Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. The award recognizes fourth and fifth graders who show outstanding educational growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development in their academic subjects. It is to recognize students who work hard and give their best effort.
Fifth grader Austin Hardy received the President's Award for Educational Excellence in both reading and math. To receive the award, students must have earned a GPA of 90 or above and scored in the 85th percentile in math or reading on a nationally standardized test.
Fourth grader Andrea Hill were named to the honor roll for the 2007-2008 school year. To be named to the honor roll for the year, a student must have an average of 90 or above with no grade below a 90 for each of the four nine-weeks grading periods.
Fifth graders Austin Hardy and Justin Tucker, fourth graders Ty Gunter and Lathan Roberson, and third graders Hunter Callaway and Jonathan Davidson were named to the merit list for the 2007-2008 school year. To be named to the merit list for the year, students must have an average of 80 or above with no grade below an 80 for each of the four nine-weeks grading periods.
Fourth grader Ty Gunter and third graders Alli Bennett and Jonathan Davidson received perfect attendance awards for the 2007-2008 school year.
India Callaway and Austin Hardy were recognized for their hard work and skill in piano performance at Briarwood. As third-year-students in the piano program, the two students performed in recitals at Christmas and in the spring.
