May is such a busy time of the year, with end of school, graduations, Memorial Day, anniversaries and birthdays. Most of my news is centered on these activities. Celeste Adams spent her birthday last week with a runaway horse. O'Neal Adams told his wife, Celeste, that he would let her sleep late for her birthday. Well, at 6:30 a.m. he woke her up to tell her that there was a strange horse in their yard. They spent half the day trying to catch this horse and the rest of the day fixing the fences that he had torn down around their own horses. Celeste even missed her ice cream party that was in her honor from the Beulah WMU. What a birthday! ƒCongratulations to Zan and Margie Bunch who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last Saturday at Tabor Baptist Church. When they were renewing their vows, Zan said, "I've been through this one time!" There are very few mothers who can celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of their children. Ellen Bunch, Zan's mother, not only is living, but is still looking very young. ƒCongratulations to Anna Jewell who graduated from Elbert County High School last Friday. Anna is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jewell. I remember Anna being such a great anchor on KTV at the primary school in Washington when I was helping with the KTV (Kids TV) station. Well Anna is still doing wonderful things. She was voted as most unforgettable, was captain of the majorettes, and an honor student. A graduation party was given in her honor last Saturday at her home. ƒOver the weekend Graydon and Pat Bobo attended two graduations. They attended the graduation of their nephew, Travis McCannn, in Bainbridge and then on to Calhoun where they attended the graduation of their niece, Amanda Groomes. ƒMr. and Mrs. J.C. Clark and Melissa Clark of Augusta and Porter B. Jones attended the graduation at South Cobb High School in Cobb County of Alvin Jones II, nephew of Vernilla and grandson of Porter B. Alvin's father, Alvin Jones, Vernilla's brother, is stationed in Kuwait and was allowed to come home for his son's graduation. ƒPole Branch Missionary Baptist Church celebrated its 122nd year anniversary Sunday. There was a big crowd to enjoy the message entitled "How Is the Family?" brought by their pastor, Rev. Joe Glaze. The dinner afterwards was also enjoyed by all. Rev. Glaze just celebrated his birthday Wednesday, May 28. We hope he had a happy one. ƒMargaret Fortson spent last week in Conover, Tennessee, visiting a friend, Evelyn Ray. ƒRev. and Mrs. Dale Fincher and Julie, Mr. and Mrs. Josh Fincher and Jade traveled to Gainesville to the home of Beth Lane, Kay Fincher's sister, where they were joined by Kay's other four sisters and their families to celebrate the 84th birthday of Kay's Mother, Janette Edwards of Rome. ƒSpending Saturday through Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Tyler were Mrs. Greg Tyler, Jordan, Caleb, and Sydney of Hoschton. Greg Tyler played in a tennis tournament Saturday and Sunday but was able to join them Sunday night and Monday. Oh, and Greg won in the tournament. ƒJohnny Painter has been visiting Almond Standard and attended church with Almond Sunday morning. ƒVisiting with Mary Ann Williams over the weekend were Johnny Smallwood of Alto, Betty Nix of Clarkesville, and Margaret Simmons of Baldwin. ƒI have been asked by several people to let them know when I will repeat the table manners session. Well, next Tuesday afternoon, June 3, at 2:30 at the North Wilkes Library I will be reading Mind Your Manners B.G. Wolf with the table manners lesson after the story. The children will learn how to set the table in this lesson. Story time has been changed to Tuesdays now since school is out. Remember, every Tuesday at 2:30 to get your kids to the North Wilkes Library for story time. ƒAfter story time last Saturday I was in the library when Charles Heard of Elberton and Joe Heard and son, Mark Heard, of Anderson, S.C., came in to visit the museum. Help is needed in bringing all our area's history to this museum. Please, if you have any information or pictures, send them to the North Wilkes Museum, P.O. Box 7, Tignall, GA 30668. ƒSenior adults of Tignall Baptist Church, don't forget the program of patriotic music presented by Sherri Bowers this Friday, May 30, at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will follow. I hope you have let Pat Bobo know your plans to attend. ƒSunday evening, May 31, at 6:30 p.m. there will be a covered dish supper for all choir members and for anyone who would like to sing in the "Revival Choir" at Tignall Baptist Church. The choir practice will be after the meal. Let Pam Pullen know if you can join the choir for the revival. ƒVacation Bible School is June 16-20 at Tignall Baptist. Put these dates on your calendar. There is a Hawaiian theme this year. ƒMembers of the Tignall Baptist Church enjoyed the special music Sunday brought by Sydney Pullen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Pullen and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Pullen. She sang Me and God and had the sweetest expression on her face while singing. I know this family is very proud of her. Sydney is a very talented young lady. ƒHaving dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Pullen Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Pullen, Sydney, Carson and Avery of Elberton; and Mr. and Mrs. Josh Fincher and Made. ƒI apologize for the mistake made last week in getting the name of Hugh Keener's aunt wrong. It was Mrs. Inez Vinson who was in the hospital at Athens Regional. I hope she has had more improvement. ƒLet's keep Christine Burton, Joe Bufford, Shirley Roberson, Nita Riley, Mary Sue Heard, and Vivian Wolozin in our prayers. Mary Sue Heard had gallbladder surgery last week and was at church Sunday looking as if nothing was ever wrong with her. Shirley Roberson has good news with her surgery. Vivian Wolozin had surgery in Athens Regional Hospital last Friday and was home the next night. Now they put you in one day and out the next day.
