Mt. Carmel Baptist honors graduation of Thomas Booker
Thomas Booker was honored with graduation services by the Sunday School of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he has faithfully attended for 18 years.
Thomas graduated from Washington Wilkes Comprehens ive High School in Tiger Stadium on Friday, May 23. He is the son of Robyn and Enoch Booker Jr.
Toastmaster for the program was Pete Gartrell. After marching into the church to "Pomp and Circumstance," the welcome was given by David Taylor. John Pope Jr. presented two instrumental saxophone solos.
The graduation addresses were presented by members of his Sunday School Class -- Tanisha Byrd and Milton James. Words of encouragement were given by his Sunday School Teacher, Pete Gartrell.
In presenting Thomas his diploma, Milton James wished him all the success while attending Fort Valley State University where he will be a student this fall.
Rev. Charles Belton, Thomas' pastor, presented the charge. He concluded by telling him never to forget "within whom his strength lies."
A reception was held in the church's annex. The theme chosen was "Through Trials to Glory."
Special appreciation was expressed to his Sunday School class members: Tevin Gresham, Robert Byrd, Jamieka Gresham, David Taylor, Tarnisha Byrd, Milton James, Trey James, Ashley Jackson, and Jonathan Flint.
The graduate's father serves as superintendent of the Sunday School.
A special out-of-town guest was his grandmother, Eva Mae Durham of Abbeville, Ga.
