Iris Garden Club members enjoy spring luncheon at Keener home
The Iris Garden Club met Tuesday, May 13, in the home of Nobie Keener in Tignall for the annual spring salad luncheon.
Mimosas and orange juice were served to members as they arrived.
Karen Subbs, president, presided and welcomed members. She thanked Mrs. Keener for hosting the meeting in her beautiful home and also thanked hostesses, Debbie Bennett, Sandy Burton, Nancy Ferris, Nita Latimer, Lisa Luken and Karen Wheeler.
Dot Harris, chairman of the Garden Therapy Nursing Home committee, reported the committee has planted new shrubs, relocated some existing shrubs, and pruned and mulched, with the help of their husbands. She also reported she had noticed many of the residents enjoying the garden.
Debbie Bennett, chairman of the Environmental and Youth Service, reported she had delivered scholarship information to the high school counselor early in the year.
Mrs. Stubbs, who also serves as National Garden Week committee chairman, noted that National Garden Week is the first week in June. Floral arrangements will be placed in the Chamber of Commerce and the Mary Willis Library in observance of this event.
She also announced that May is daylily month at the Massee Gardens at Fort Valley.
Following the business meeting, Jackie Gale offered the blessing and members enjoyed the delicious spring luncheon. Table centerpieces made by the hostesses were door prizes for which members drew following the meal.
