First Baptist Pre-Kindergarten honors mothers at special Mother's Day Tea on Monday, May 5
First Baptist Church Pre-Kindergarten girls in their boas, jewelry and tiaras, and boys sporting top hats and bow ties, honored their mothers at a Mother's Day Tea in the Mary Callaway Burton Fellowship Hall. The children of the First Baptist Church Pre-Kindergarten honored their mothers at a special Mother's Day Tea on Monday, May 5, in the Mary Callaway Burton Fellowship Hall.
The children arrived in their "Sunday clothes" and members of the Pre-Kindergarten committee added to their attire, top hats and bow ties for the boys, and jeweled tiaras, pearls, pink or purple boas and white gloves for the girls.
The fellowship hall was festively decorated with fresh bouquets, white wicker and lattice. The wicker and lattice to the left of the entrance was enhanced with two white pedestals holding topiaries of pink roses accented with sheer off-white ribbon.
Five round tables filled the room. They were covered in floor-length white cloths, overlaid in Burgundy and accented with center scrunched floral fabric. The center table featured a large crystal bowl filled with green apples, limes, leaves and mosses. Flowing from the vase were fresh flowers including deep pink Gerber daisies, peonies, white and pink parrot and French tulips and pink liatris. Smaller arrangements of blush and white tulips in clear vases accented with fresh sliced lemons centered the remaining four tables.
The gift table was covered in white and overlaid with the matching sheer floral cloth. A topiary of off-white roses with Burgundy ribbon centered the table.
The mothers of the children waited outside under the portico until each was escorted in by her child for a picture in the seating area. Each child then took his or her mother to the gift table for a special gift which she opened after all the mothers were seated. Each mother received a china plate with their child's handprint in the middle, "Happy Mother's Day - 2008" and their name. The plates had been baked and ready for use. Each child also made a special Mother's Day card.
The Pre-Kindergarten Committee served refreshments. Kermit Hocutt served tea from frog pitchers to the delight of the children. Kay Nelms, Dean Mansfieldand Debbie Lindsey served chicken nuggets, sliced apples, chips and teapot-shaped cookies, baked by Gail Stewart.
Immediately following the tea, the mothers gathered around their teacher, "Miss Angie" Paul, and surprised her with a wedding shower from them and the children. Cake and punch were enjoyed.
