Crack shot Daniel Hackney tops team at Ga. 4-H Target Challenge Weekend

Members of the Outlaws and the Smoking Guns competed at the Georgia 4-H Target Challenge Weekend. Members of the Outlaws and the Smoking Guns competed at the Georgia 4-H Target Challenge Weekend. With a score of 457 out of a possible 500, Daniel Hackney was the high shooter for Wilkes County at the Georgia 4-H Target Challenge Weekend in state BB competition. The two teams competing from Wilkes County were the Outlaws and Smoking Guns. These two teams competed with 80 other teams. To finish out their season, the Smoking Guns placed 10th overall and the Outlaws placed 60th at the contest.

Team members competing were: Smoking Guns - Daniel Hackney, Jacob Hubbard, Blake Connell, Joshua McLeroy, Dylan Echols, Michael Pharr, and Catie Miller; Outlaws - Kasey Gowen, Clayton Johnson, Rebakah Hubbard, Cody McLeroy, Brenden Johnson, Chandler Pharr, and Trent Wilson. Competing as individuals were Liam Smith, Sharkeia Wright and Cody Gowen. Volunteer team coaches were Dwayne McLeroy, Tina McLeroy, Carl Miller, Darren Pharr and Keith Hubbard.

The event culminated seven months of weekly team practices. Each 4-H'er had ten minutes to shoot ten shots in the four positions of prone, standing, sitting, and kneeling. They also demonstrated their knowledge on a written exam.

Daniel Hackney was the top shooter for Wilkes County at the Georgia 4-H Target Challenge Weekend competition. The 4-H'ers earned the right to compete in the state contest by qualifying at the Area BB Contest. Teams of seven 4-H'ers had to shoot a score of 1500 or better and indi- viduals a score of 300 or better.

Each 4-H'er competing in the state contest earned an award pin. High individuals in each shooting position and the high written exam scorer received individual award trophies. Daniel Hackney was the high scoring individual for Wilkes County. He scored a 457 out of a possible 500.

The BB Program is a part of the Georgia 4-H Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education Program. 4-H is the youth program of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
