Sardis Baptist Church honors graduates at special Sunday service

2008-05-29 / Worship

Sardis Baptist Church enjoyed a good service Sunday morning with several special things taking place.

Sunday School was held at 10 a.m. followed by the worship service. Rev. Jim Newsome began the service with the baptism of Sherri Standard and Ty Land. It was a beautiful ceremony in the church baptismal pool against the painting of a river scene behind the pool.

Pam Hall directed the music with Courtney Gunter as pianist, beginning with "My Country 'Tis of Thee."

Four high school graduates were honored in a beautiful and touching ceremony. They were Rebekah Echols, Ethan Armour, Russell Standard, and Mitch Davis. Rev. Newsome congratulated them and highly praised each one and presented them with a gift. Each of the graduates told of their plans. Rebekah and Ethan will be going to Athens Tech; Russell plans to attend Georgia Southern University in Statesboro; and Mitch will attend the University of Georgia. We are all very proud of them.

Rev. Newsome called for the children to come to the altar where he gave them their little message and prayer. They then went to the annex for children's church with Monica Gunter.

Rev. Newsome read a tribute to all veterans with special prayer for them. He asked all veterans or servicemen or women in the service to stand. Then he gave an inspiring message on "God Will Never Let You Down."

The scripture reading was from Luke 15:1-31. At the end of the service Jasmine Fry came forward to join the church as everyone sang "His Name Is Wonderful."

The Sunday School lesson at the Echols Home was presented by Nina Boatwright. Prayer meeting is held at the Echols Home every Wednesday evening at 6:30.

Everyone is invited to all services at Sardis.
