What a wonderful week. Nothing happened out of the ordinary but once you've had any major health problems, all days are wonderful, and I try to live my days to the fullest. I enjoy helping others and doing for others. I love people, even those who are difficult to love. My parents always instilled in me to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I am grateful for my Poppa and Mama. I hope I can repay them for all the wonderful things that they have done for me and the Christian values they taught me. .We had a good Sunday at Ebenezer Baptist Church last week. Dr. Dupree's message was titled "The Cotton Needs Picking -- So Bad," taken from Isaiah and Matthew. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Nelson placed beautiful yellow roses in the sanctuary. After the service, the quarterly conference was held to discuss church business. .Happy anniversary to Linda and Johnny Shelton (45 years); Teresa and Alan Kimp; and Linda and James Smith. .Happy birthday to all who are celebrating a birthday this week. Our church friends who are celebrating are Linda Shelton, Rhonda Roberson, Pam Gunter, Hannah and Josh Fair, and Ed Burdette. .Trudy Ingram spent Saturday in Savannah with friends. .Mrs. Lucille Ingram, Trudy Ingram and some other family members attended homecoming at Hephzibah Baptist Church in Lincoln County Sunday. Rev. Ben Coleman, a former pastor, was the guest minister. He is from Hartwell at Crossroads Baptist Church. .Peyton Standard of Lexington, S.C., spent several days with his grandmother, Linda Standard, last week. They visited Sara Huff, Bobby and Heather Ansley. Linda and Peyton met his mother and stepfather, Jennifer and Donald Johnson, in Wrens Sunday. .Linda Standard, Peyton Standard, and Sarah Huff attended a 50th birthday surprise for Darryl Standard Saturday evening. It was held at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Larry Doolittle. .G.B. and I had dinner with my parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry N. Wallace in Lincoln County, Sunday. .Russell Goldman of Doraville spent the weekend with his mother, Sarah Huff. . Jim and Karan Newsome visited Mrs. Jenelle Newsome several days last week. .Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Dunnaway Sunday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Holt, Mallory and Kinsley of Martinez; Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Holt and sons of Wilkes County; and Wayne and Laura Epps of Lincoln County. .I visited Mr. and Mrs. David Bentley in Lexington recently. David has not been feeling well. .Pat Tuttle visited her mother, Mrs. Hill O'Neal, every day last week. Sandra O'Pry of Athens visited during the weekend. They both are assisting Miss Alma in whatever capacity she needs them. .Mr. and Mrs. James E. Lee visited his sister, Mrs. Ruth Swain, in Baldwin last week. .Kaaleigha Williams has been ill and we send get well wishes to her. She is the seven-year-old daughter of Christy and Ricky Williams. .Sincere love and sympathy to all who recently lost loved ones. Our prayers are reaching out to you. .I visited the family of Melvin Partridge at the home in Lincoln County Sunday. He was the father of Kenneth Partridge, Rachel Pharr, Bobby Partridge, Irvin Partridge, Roger Partridge, and Tim Partridge. The boys are all living in Lincoln County and Rachel lives in Washington. When I was growing up I enjoyed visiting with the family. I know they will miss him very much. The funeral was Monday at New Hope Baptist Church. .Our prayer concerns include the Oliver Gill family, the Melvin Partridge family, the James Smith family, Henry Swann Jr., Ruth Bell, Myrline Thornton, Jenelle Newsome, Margaret Gunter, Ann Charping and family, Rev. Rev. Mike Hardy of Greensboro will be our guest minister, and Tim and Kathy Duren will be our guest musicians. .School will soon be starting and I know the children think their vacation was very short. It's terrible that they have to go back so soon. We never went back until after Labor Day in September. Watch out. Year-round school will soon be here. .Don't forget that the Newsome family reunion will be Saturday, August 9, at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
