Vacations! Does everyone else need a vacation after the vacation? A beach is a relaxing place to be except when there's a storm. Let me tell you about my 15 minutes on the beach. Richard and I joined the Craig Gammon family on Wednesday of last week at Tybee Island. They had beautiful weather until we arrived. I got everything ready for the beach with the umbrella, beach towel, and camera, sat down in my chair to take a few pictures and the wind started blowing all the umbrellas away and filled my face with sand. I didn't even have time to use the sunscreen. We went in when it started raining. The next day there was a tropical storm all morning so we came home. After we left, they said the weather calmed down. I think I'll take my vacation inside the house with a good book and under air conditioning.

.Albert and Eudora Huyck had a tough experience with their car last week. Eudora went to the grocery store in Washington. After packing her groceries in the car she tried to crank her car and couldn't. She called Albert in Tignall and he came to Washington and helped swap the groceries to his vehicle. Then he tried to crank the car and couldn't. While he was trying, Buddy Lindsey drove up in the parking lot and spoke to them. They told him their problem so Buddy came over and shook the steering wheel and it cranked. You can imagine how that made Albert and Eudora feel. Don't worry, Eudora. I've done the same thing before, but at least I didn't have ice cream melting while I tried to start my car. .On Sunday, John and Nonie Yochim carried Vivian Wolozin with them to visit Kathy and Dale Robertson in Winder. Vivian enjoyed seeing their new home. .We extend sympathy to the family of Oliver Gill who was originally from Tignall. He lost his wife, Genelle Gill, on Monday of last week. Oliver died on Thursday of last week. Albert Huyck was in charge of both funeral services at the First Baptist Church, Washington. Oliver was the son of the late Mrs. Mary Gill who once lived in the home where Nita Riley now lives. .Spending several days with Alex and Kay Tyler was their grandson, Jordan Tyler of Hoschton. .Spending a few days with Mary Ann Williams and Sara Grimes was their sister, Betty Nix of Clarkesville. . Last Saturday Kimberly and Joe Coots, Chase and Connor of Ranger went by Bethlehem and picked up Abby Range and joined O'Neal and Celeste Adams where they all attended the birthday party for Rosalyn Adams at the home of Arnold and Dorla Adams in Rayle. There was a large crowd of relatives and friends present and a good time was had by all. The Coots family and Abby Range spent the night with O'Neal and Celeste Adams. .Spending from Friday until Sunday with Danny and Tammy Price were Tammy's cousin and her husband, Christy and Jim Rush of Lawrenceville. They attended church with the Prices on Sunday. .Congratulations to Price Rogers who plays baseball with the Team of Georgia of Columbia County. His team will be playing in the Dixie Boys World Series at City Pond Complex in Covington August 2-8. Price's team was the Dixie Boys State Champions. Price lives in Evans with his mother, Karen Rogers. .Donald and Peggy Ware joined Mr. and Mrs. John Cook of Alto for several days at their condo in Daytona Beach, Fla. .Layton and Gloria Harris met Jack and Tommie Heard in Helen Sunday and they went on to attend the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee. They enjoyed the gospel music at the fair. Jack and Tommie have been camping at Unicoi Springs for several months. .J.C. and Vernilla Clark and daughter Melisa Clark attended the funeral service for their daughter-in-law's grandfather, Walter Jake Lewis, in Brewton, Ala. He was a well-known veteran of the Brewton City Police Department. The funeral was held at one of the schools to handle the large crowd in attendance. The Clarks were greeted by their son, Ricardo Clark, and his wife Shannon, and sons, Jaden and Christian, who flew in from Phoenix, Arizona. As much as they enjoyed being with family members which was like a family reunion, they'd really "Rather Be in Tignall." .A luncheon was given in honor of Connie Dozier at Mallorysville Baptist Church on Sunday. Connie is moving back to Florida next weekend. I'm sure the church and Fievet Pharmacy will miss her. .We are glad to report that Myrline Thornton is doing much better. She has been sitting up for longer periods of time and was expected to be placed in a regular room at the first of this week. .Tignall Baptist Church was glad to have Rev. Milton Parker and his wife from Elberton Sunday morning. He preached in the absence of Rev. Dale Fincher who is on vacation. .The beautiful flowers in Tignall Baptist Church Sunday were placed there in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Dunaway by Mr. and Mrs. Alex Tyler and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gammon. .Please don't forget to send in your list of loved ones who have served our country from the Revolutionary War to the present day. The North Wilkes Museum would like to honor those veterans who have served. We hope you will have an interest in taking part in preserving our history. The deadline is August 30.
