Mule Day volunteers are needed for a meeting today at 5:30 p.m. at the Washington- Wilkes Chamber of Commerce.

The annual Mule Day Festival is set for October 11, and the Chamber of Commerce needs local individuals, youth groups, and civic groups to take part. "If you are interested in volunteering please let us know," Ashley Barnett said, "and students who are looking for volunteer hours, we have work you can do."

Barnett says she is looking forward to increased participation from agricultural groups and farm businesses. "Mule Day was at its best back when it was put on by people who had a heart for farm animals and the farm life. We need those people back involved in Mule Day."

Also needed are entertainers for the day and vendors of all kinds. "We're accepting vendors for arts and crafts and food. We are also looking for primitive crafters. Please contact us to let us know you are interested."

The annual celebration of plantation life in the Old South offers draft mule and horse events and contests, primitive demonstrations, food, and arts & crafts show, history, food, prizes and fun for the whole family, Barnett said. "We hope to have a pumpkin patch this year, so you can get your pumpkin right here in Washington."

Anyone who would like to be a part of this annual Chamber event but cannot attend the August 7 meeting may call the Chamber at 706-678-2013 or email washcham@washingtonwilkes. org. for more information.
