Danger -- park cars, not dogs.
On a summer day the inside of a car heats very quickly. On an 85-degree day, for example, the temperature inside a car with the windows slightly open will reach 102 degrees in 10 minutes. Within 30 minutes, it will be 120 degrees.
A dog's normal body temperature is 101.2 degrees F. A dog can withstand a body temperature of 107-108 degrees for only a short time before suffering brain damage or death.
Closed cars interfere with a dog's normal cooling process, that is, evaporation through panting.
