Firefighters put out the last smoldering embers of a hayfield fire Thursday, saving a large part of the field off Scull Shoals Road that owner Billy Chafin said had yet to be cut this year. Fire investigators identified what may have been the source of ignition on a power pole next to a shed, where an electrical short may have sparked the blaze. The fire was spotted from the air by Georgia Forestry rangers flying nearby, which kept the fire from spreading further.
