A memorial service for Joanne Dawkins, 63, of Crawfordville, will be held Saturday, August 9, 2008, at 11 a.m., at the Greater Level Hill Baptist Church in Taliaferro County with Pastor Samuel Duggan officiating.

Mrs. Dawkins was the daughter of the late John and Lela Cornish and was born in Philadelphia, Penn. She graduated from Overbrook High School in 1964. She was a member of the Greater Level Hill Baptist Church where she served on the Mother Board, was a deaconess, Sunbeam Choir, Young Adult Sunday School Teacher, and Pastor's Aide Committee. She was a Girl Scout Troup leader. She was employed by the Taliaferro County Board of Commissioners for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Giles E. Dawkins of Crawfordville; three daughters, Leah R. Goodwin of Waynesboro, Leila R. Edgerson of Augusta, and Leona D. Dawkins of Washington; a brother, John W. Cornish of Naples, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Walter L. Marshall, Milton L. James Jr., Trey James, Edward L. Goodwin Jr., and April M. Goodwin.
