Ashley Kearney receives Black Rock scholarship July 20

Ashley Kearney received a $500 scholarship presented by Black Rock A.M.E. Church on Sunday, July 20, by Rev. Michele Williams.
This year marks the ninth year a deserving student has received this scholarship which is funded by church members and friends.
Kearney is a 2008 graduate of Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School where she was recognized as an outstanding student and received many accolades for her academic ability. As senior class president, she was a key speaker at the commencement exercises.
While enrolled at W-WCHS, she was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, Math League, Upward Bound, Beta Club, and the National Honor Society.
Kearney played point guard for the W-WCHS basketball team throughout her entire high school career. Her love for the game gained her the qualification to play for any Division I or Division II school in the nation.
Kearney plans to attend the University of Tampa in Florida in the fall. She is the daughter of Vincent and Sandy Wilkinson and the granddaughter of Roger and Phyllis Wilkinson, all of Washington.
