The Rider House on Court Street was the scene of a miscellaneous shower and drop-in Sunday afternoon, August 3, honoring Ashlyn Winfrey, bride-elect of Ryan Reese of Evans. Hostesses for the occasion were Vonice Wells, Alicia DeWeese, Teresa Eason, Lee Durham, Vicki Harvey, Patsy Winn, Nancy Barnett, Mary Newsome and Jane Newsome.

Miss Winfrey was presented a corsage of white spray roses to complement her black and white empire waist summer dress accented with a green sash.

Ferns graced the front gate and flanked the front door. Leading to the front porch were lush potted plantings of sego palms and asparagus ferns. On the front porch was a round table topped in white with a green sheer overlay tied midway down with a matching satin bow. A silver vase of orange and green gladioli and deeper green bells of Ireland decorated the table where guests registered in the bride's book.

Inside the orange, green and brown color theme for the wedding continued. The dining room side buffet, accented with a green beading edged swirl of voile, featured a tall silver handled vase of orange and green gladioli, and deeper green bells of Ireland flanked by silver candelabra with orange tapers. Accents of English ivy softened the setting.

The table was covered in ivory damask with an orange voile overlay adorned at the corners with matching crystal beading. The silver punch bowl centered the table and was accented with silver votives of orange candles interspersed around and among the silver and crystal serving appointments. English ivy finished the table. A nearby table, accented in green voile, held dessert plates and silver forks.

From the table guests enjoyed an assortment of cakes including coconut, lemon pound cake, pound cake, caramel, chocolate thin-layer cake, orange, and Key Lime, with lemon squares, brownies, cheese straws and nuts.

Miss Winfrey greeted her guests in the parlor and opened her gifts seated on the Victorian settee. Gifts were displayed in the adjoining hall at tables covered in white and overlay in brown voile. Large pillar holders in swirls of orange voile and holding orange pillar candles were complete with accents of English ivy.

The hostesses presented the brideelect a place setting of her informal china.

One hundred seventy guests were invited. Special out-of-town family guests included Linda Mitchell of Crawfordville; Carmine Cowart of Savannah; Holly Hutto and Mary Lynn McCullough of Warrenton; Barbara Norris of Union Point; Cathy Bond of Milledgeville; Debbie Reese of Grovetown; Loretta Bostic and Cheryl Scott of Augusta; Pam Hinesley of Conyers; Carol Reese, Nikki and Maddie Welch, Marietta Stone, Jamie Reese and Denise Hamrick of Lincolnton; Beverly Paradise, Kelli and Carli Smith and Caroline and Phil Paradise of Lexington.
