Joseph Baldwin to be recognized as scholarship winner
Joseph Baldwin of Washington, an upcoming junior vocal performance and choral conducting major at Northwestern University, will be recognized during the August 24 morning worship service at the First Baptist Church as recipient of the First Baptist Church Troupe Harris Scholarship for 2008-2009.
He will be in charge of the music for the entire service and will conduct the First Baptist Senior Choir in three choral selections.
Baldwin was salutatorian of his graduating class at Briarwood Academy and has participated in numerous music programs during his student years. As an accomplished vocalist and actor he has performed in many productions of the Washington Little Theater Company and Briarwood Academy.
He is a member of the First Baptist Church, Washington, and is currently the baritone section leader and soloist at the First United Methodist Church in Evanston, Illinois. This summer he served as head counselor at the National High School Music Institute in Evanston.
The Troupe Harris Scholarship was founded to honor Troupe M. Harris Jr., former piano teacher and Director of Music of the First Baptist Church. The scholarship recognizes academic achievement, Christian character, and dedication to the fine arts, and honors the memory of Harris' contributions to the community and his church.
The worship service begins at 11 a.m.
