Two Wilkes County residents were among 441 students who received degrees from Piedmont College at the recent summer commencement ceremonies.

Tricia Mathis of Rayle earned a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in early childhood education; and Elizabeth Michelle Smith of Washington earned an Education Specialist (Ed.S) degree.

Piedmont College is an independent liberal arts college of about 2,000 students with campuses in Demorest and Athens.
