RECOMMENDATIONS AND PRESENTMENTS of the Wilkes County Grand Jury, August Term, 2008
GRAND JURY PRESENTMENTS
AUGUST 2008
We, the Grand Jury of Wilkes County, Georgia, sworn and empanelled during the August, 2008, Term of Wilkes County Superior Court, wish to submit the following:
Motion was made, seconded and approved that John Trevin Burriss be elected foreman; Jean F. Payne as clerk; and Hal W. Clubb, Eddie Finnell, and Marion Hammond as bailiffs.
We especially thank the employees of the District Attorney's Office. To District Attorney Dennis Sanders and Sr. Assistant District Attorney Bill Doupe', we express appreciation for their assistance and council which greatly expedited the deliberations and actions of this body.
We wish to express appreciation to Judge Roger W. Dunaway Jr. for his charge to the Grand Jury.
We wish to thank the Clerk of Court, Mildred Peeler, and her staff for their courtesy to this Grand Jury.
We wish to thank our Bailiffs who served us so well along with the Sheriff's Office, the Washington Police Department, and the other officers for their courteous assistance and commend them for having all witnesses available.
The Grand Jury recommends that a clock be placed in the Grand Jury room. We further recommend that the broken chairs be removed from the Grand Jury room and further that all of the Grand Jury chairs be replaced with more comfortable chairs.
We would like to give our thanks for the service we received while serving on the Grand Jury. We found the presentation of cases to be very well organized. The District Attorney's office provided good explanations to all questions and concerns expressed by the Grand Jury. We appreciate the District Attorney working diligently to help the Grand Jury finish its duties in a timely manner.
The Grand Jury was given the Wilkes County Child Abuse Protocol Report pursuant to the Georgia law.
We, the Grand Jury, have acted on all bills of indictment brought before this Body without fear, favor or affection toward either party involved.
PER DIEM
The motion was made and carried that jurors pay be fixed at thirty-five ($35.00) dollars per day and bailiff's pay be set at fifty-five ($55.00) dollars per day for the 2009 term.
The motion was made and carried that the Foreperson and the Clerk of this Body be paid ten ($10.00) dollars per day in addition to the regular jurors pay.
BOARD OF TAX EQUALIZATION
We, the duly constituted Grand Jury of Wilkes County for the August term 2008, in accordance with Section 48-5-311 of the Official Code of Georgia, hereby appoint the following named persons to the Wilkes County Board of Equalization for the January 1, 2008, through December 31, 2010, term.
Member: David W. Adams
Alternate Member: William Derricott
The Board, after these appointments, will be composed as follows:

We, the duly appointed Grand Jury of Wilkes County, Georgia, August Term, 2008, having inspected the Election Returns and Ballots in the office of the Superior Court Clerk, Mildred Peeler, hereby direct the Superior Court Clerk, Mildred Peeler, to destroy all Election Returns and Ballots which are as of this date twenty-four months old or older, this in accordance with Code Section 21-2-500. ORDER OF THE COURT
It is hereby ordered that the above and foregoing presentments and recommendations of the Grand Jury of Wilkes County, Georgia, for the August 2008 Term be spread upon the minutes of the Superior Court of said county and that same be pub- lished in The News-Reporter, the official organ of Wilkes County, Georgia, once.
