Tigers look 'pretty good' in jamboree; tie with Greene 7-7
      Last Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. the Washington-Wilkes Tigers took on the Greene County Tigers in the 2008 football season jamboree. This year's format was different from years past: instead of treating the jamboree like a regular game, each team got alternating drives of twelve plays starting on its own 40-yard line.

Lady Tigers still looking for first win on softball diamond
      It has been a rocky start for the Washington-Wilkes Lady Tigers softball team. Three games into the season, the team is still looking for its first win and although chances were good that they might get it on Monday, the weather shut them down with a rainout.

Tennis tournament to be held at Liberty St. Park Sept. 6-7
      The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a double elimination tennis tournament on September 6-7. The tournament will be held at the Liberty Street Park beginning at 4 p.m. There are two age divisions: youth, 14-18 years old; and adult, 19 years old and up.

Punt, Pass, and Kick competition set for Sept. 13 at stadium
      The Optimist Club of Washington will sponsor the 2008 Punt, Pass, and Kick competition Saturday, September 13, at Tiger Stadium, beginning at 10 a.m. All boys and girls ages 8 to 15 are eligible to participate. Competition will be held rain or shine.

Soccer deadline is extended for fall Parks & Rec season
      The final deadline for registration to play soccer with the Washington- Wilkes Parks and Recreation program has been extended to August 29. The registration fee is $35. No late sign-ups will be accepted. Games will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Volleyball tourney set for Liberty St. Park for Sept. 6-7
      The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a double elimination volleyball tournament September 6-7 at the Liberty Street Park. The events will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. The age control date for participants is prior to September 1 of the current year. Any participant must be 18 years old prior to that date.
