The Tignall Baptist Senior Adult Luncheon was a fun day for all attending. Everyone enjoyed the very talented Gwin Ware as he entertained on his electric piano. Gwin and his wife Cliffy live in Evans but both are formerly from Tignall and we were so glad to have them here. There was lots of tapping, clapping, and bouncing with his music. Some of these senior adults were almost dancing. Lunch was also enjoyed with the many varieties of salads. Pat Bobo told about the funeral she attended the day before where the deceased's grandsons came to the funeral wearing his ties they had found in his closet. Rev. Dale Fincher said he had heard that the reason women outlive men is because of men having to wear ties. Mrs. Mildred Tyler spoke up with, "But the women have to wear girdles!" ƒKay Tyler's grandson, Caleb Tyler, is very much like his dad, Greg, was at that age. He had friends, twin boys who are their neighbors, playing with him. As they started upstairs to the playroom, Greg told the boys that he would give each of them a dollar if they cleaned the playroom. As they left, Greg asked if they cleaned the room and Caleb said, "No, I told them not to because you could afford to pay them more than a dollar." ƒAbout two weeks ago, David and Nancy Hilley spent a week with their son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Davy Hilley and Savannah, in Ocala, Florida. ƒRecently, Mary Webster spent a weekend in Helen and had fun tubing. At least it was warmer then. I know that water in Helen must be cold now. ƒHaving lunch with Sara Frances Henderson Monday a week ago were her son, Creight Henderson of Beech Island, S.C., and her sister, Pat Mack. Sara Frances Henderson's daughter, Frances Johnson of North Augusta, spent Sunday night with Sara Frances. ƒGena and Sydney Tyler of Hoschton spent Friday night with Alex and Kay Tyler. ƒVisiting Saturday with Vivian and Louie Wolozin was Vivian's daughter, Kathy Robertson, of Winder. Visiting with them on Friday was Gary Ware of Wadley. ƒSpending Sunday afternoon with Margaret Fortson were Otis and Martha Ann Fortson of Anderson, S.C. They brought supper with them so they enjoyed supper together before going back to Anderson. Margaret spent Tuesday and Wednesday with her sister-in-law, Martha Anderson, in Greenwood, S.C. ƒ Those visiting with Sara Grimes and Mary Ann Williams during the week were Leon Nix and Terry Nix of Clarkesville; Diane Nix and Kay Royal of Toccoa; and Roy Grimes of Elberton. Betty Nix of Clarkesville spent several days with Sara and Mary Ann. ƒAllen and Stacey Long, Destini and Ryan, enjoyed a weekend in Savannah and Tybee Island Beach. ƒAlbert and Eudora Huyck visited with Lem and Ellen LeRoy in Charlotte, N.C., from Thursday through Saturday, August 14-16. Albert and Eudora spent Wednesday through Saturday of last week in Gatlinburg, Tenn. ƒRalph (Coot) and Mary Will Denard spent August 14-19 camping at Yonah Mountain. They spent some time at Blairsville and Helen. Saturday they were met by Shane and Jesse Denard and Donna Bennett in Helen and enjoyed the parade and festivities there. At Helen they had a Hazard in the Hills which sounds like lots of fun. ƒLeon and Linda Aycock attended church Sunday at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Lincolnton. This is the church Grace Aycock (Leon's mom) belongs to. There was a covered dish lunch at the church after the service. ƒSpending Friday and Saturday in Perry for a steer show that Greg Callaway was involved in were Leon and Linda Aycock, Otis and Pat Callaway and Tonya and Brian Callaway. They were very proud of Greg as he received the grand champion and also a second place award. ƒFishing Creek Baptist Church will be having another Country Cooking supper Saturday, September 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. I understand this is a great place to get a delicious meal at a good price. ƒThere was a baptismal service at Mallorysville Baptist Church Sunday, August 17, with Daniel Slaton being baptized. ƒThere were seven people baptized at Tignall Baptist Church Sunday. They were Curt Gammon, D.J. Martin, Kolbi Tucker, Lori Tucker, Whitney Branham, Joe Rogers, and Julie Fincher. What wonderful way to dedicate the newly renovated baptismal pool at Tignall Baptist Church. ƒLet's keep the following people in our prayers: Porter B. Jones had knee replacement surgery last week and is in Doctors Hospital; Vernilla Clark's uncle, Bennie Irvin Willis, had surgery in the VA hospital last week. Cora Andrews; Jon Smith is back in the hospital in Gwinnett County with pneumonia. Nita Riley and Myrline Thornton are in Wills Memorial Hospital. Sara Frances Henderson, Shirley Roberson, Alma Price, Jim Presnell, brother-in-law of Celeste Adams of Cleveland. Chris Berry had surgery a couple of weeks ago and Kathryn Vinson Wilhite had open heart surgery at Athens Regional Hospital. Kathryn is the daughter of Frances Vin- son and lives in Elberton, but she grew up here and went to school here. ƒLet's hope you'd rather be in Tignall on Saturday, November 1. Put this date on your calendar and plan to have lots of fun. We appreciate this event being mentioned in the Office Cat last week. The next North Wilkes Steering Committee meeting is Thursday, September 18. All members are encouraged to attend and help get the plans for the festival off to a good start. Everyone is looking forward to hearing Amanda Range sing the National Anthem at the festival. Amanda is the daughter of Celeste and O'Neal Adams. ƒI have seen the new quilt the Homemakers Club is putting the finishing touches to. This beautiful quilt will be given away to some lucky person at the Tignall Fall Festival. The quilt is blue and white with the bowtie pattern from the grandmother of the late Bob Mack. There will be a picture in the paper when it is completed and we'll let you know when the tickets are on sale.
