Pope, along with fami- ly members and friends, honored his wife, Sandra Pope, with a surprise "Fabulous Fifty Birthday Party" Saturday night, August 23, at the home of Ricky and Kathy Lindsey on South Alexander Avenue. Also hosting the party along with Mr. Pope and the Lindseys were the guest of honor's son, Milt Roberts of Atlanta, family members, Charlotte Simmons, and Robert and Tara Simmons, and friends, Jack and Vicki Harvey, all of Washington.

The totally surprised guest of honor was presented a blinking tiara and leopard print feather boa stole to wear during the festivities.

Upon entering the Lindseys' backyard, guests were greeted with black, white, pink and turquoise balloon bouquets blowing in the wind. White floor-length cloths with black fabric puddled in the center covered the guest tables. Centered on each table were matching balloon bouquets tied to tall black iron votive trees surrounded by tea lights. The bar and buffet tables were adorned with white cloths overlaid with lace and topped with green and white leopard print runners. Both tables held three arrangements of pink and white gladioli and floating lime green spider mums and greenery.

Guests enjoyed dining on roast beef croissants, miniature cheeseburger sliders, chicken tenders, marinated mushrooms, cheese ring filled with strawberry jam served with crackers, cheese straws, chicken salad timbales, and Georgia Caviar with Scoops.

Desserts featured brownies, a special birthday cheesecake topped with a "50" candle, and a variety of cupcakes brought especially for the guest of honor by her son, Milt, from Atlanta. He also presented his mom an Ipod filled with a selection of her favorite songs.

Mrs. Pope enjoyed opening an assortment of cards, gifts and gag gifts during the evening.

Approximately 70 friends and relatives celebrated with the Popes. Among the special guests attending were her 92-year-old grandmother, Pete Strother; parents, Lewis and Inez Hall; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Marcha Hall; brother-inlaw and sister, Ed and Teresa Hall Burdette; and cousins, B.C. and Debra Kennedy. Out-of-town guests included Mel and Sunshine Pope McBride of Marietta, Pembroke and Chrissy Tucker Pope of Canton, Walter and Ruth Taylor Simmons Ollerich of Atlanta and Bruce and Jeri Lynn Maxwell Hutter of Oxford.
