Members of the cast of "His Last Days" listen as "Jesus" speaks during the musical dram to be presented at Tallulah Falls Labor Day weekend. The 25th annual presentation of "His Last Days," a portrayal of the last days in the life of Jesus Christ, will be given on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31.

The drama, an outdoor, musical passion drama, is held each year at Tallulah Falls in the mountains of North Georgia. The drama site entrance is located at the Tallulah Falls Gallery along scenic Tallulah Gorge Drive (Scenic Rt. 15). Those attending should take a lawn chair and items for outdoor comfort. The dram continues after rain delays and is free. The drama is supported by gifts and voluntary contributions. Gifts at the level of $10 for adults and $5 for school age children are suggested.

The drama begins at 7 p.m. A hotdog and hamburger supper will be available at a modest cost beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The drama had its beginning as a dream of native Wilkes Countian Carole Murphy, who with her husband, Rev. Robert N. Murphy, another Wilkes Countian, moved to the mountains of Northeast Georgia in 1982. Rev. Murphy, is a United Methodist Minister who had been appointed executive director of Covecrest, a Christian Renewal/Retreat Center.

Mrs. Murphy, daughter of Mabel Johnson of Washington-Wilkes, began to have a dream of producing an outdoor drama on the life and ministry of Jesus, utilizing the natural scenery and the beauty of the mountains.

After two years of prayer, planning, and hard work by many volunteers the drama became a reality. The first presentation was in June 1984. Since then it has become an annual event with thousands in attendance.

"His Last Days" portrays the agony and triumph of the last days of Jesus' life on earth. The gospel story unfolds around a mountain lake which figuratively becomes the Sea of Galilee. A cast and crew of approximately 150 actors, soloists, choir members, costumers, make-up artists, sound and lighting technicians, set builders, and live animals work to make this presentation come alive.

Christians from churches throughout Georgia and surrounding states come together to create an authentic visual and spiritual experience.

The drama is a ministry of Broken Vessels Renewal Ministries with Rev. Murphy as executive director; Carole J. Murphy and Jan R. Volk, drama directors.

Anyone interested in being a part of this production or for further information should contact Mrs. Murphy at rpanic1@aol.com or call 706-769-5271.

The goal for celebrating this 25th year is to involve as many people as possible in the cast and choir in order to portray the powerful story of Jesus' earthly ministry. Over the years the cast and choir have come from both the local area and across several states. Individuals or churches interested in participating in the drama are encouraged to call Mrs. Murphy.
