Lady Tigers still looking for first win on softball diamond
It has been a rocky start for the Washington-Wilkes Lady Tigers softball team. Three games into the season, the team is still looking for its first win and although chances were good that they might get it on Monday, the weather shut them down with a rainout.
The previous Monday, August 18, the Ladies lost their season opener to Thomson by a score of 2-1 in 10 innings. Cayla Gilland pitched a complete game allowing only five hits and one earned run. Leading hitters for the Tigers were Nikki Freeman (1-4), Ashley West (2-4), Cayla Gilland (2-4), and Lauren Harrison (1-3).
On Tuesday, August 19, the Tigers were shutout by visiting Elbert County by a score of 10-0. Lindsey Guin had the only hit for the Tigers going 1-2 with two stolen bases.
On Wednesday, August 20, the Tigers lost to Oglethorpe by the score of 7-2.The Patriots broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning when they put three runs across. Three more in the seventh broke the game open. The Tigers had a run in the sixth off of a triple from Yakira Banks and an rbi single by Nikki Freeman. Leading hitters for the Tigers were Lindsey Guin (1-3), Yakira Banks (2-3, two triples), and Nikki Freeman (1-3, rbi).
