I know that many landowners are scrambling to get their tax assessment appeals in by the deadline of September 8, 2008. I also am sure that many taxpayers are not aware that the Wilkes County Board of Tax Assessors has a website with a property records database that is open to the public.

This website can be found at http://www.qpublic.net/ga/wilkes/. This records search allows users to search recent tax assessment information by owner name, address, and several other options. If landowners are looking to compare their tax assessments with similar neighboring properties, this is the tool to use.

Also available online is information about tax exemptions, important forms, and a section with answers to many frequently asked questions. I really hope that this is helpful to the taxpayers in Wilkes County.
