Revenue shortfall tough on state
Georgia Representative Mickey Channell, vice chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, who represents part of Wilkes County, spoke to members of the Washington Rotary Club at their regular lunch meeting on Thursday, August 28, and told them of the state's revenue shortfall that is causing some serious budget problems for this fiscal year. He said the shortfall is already projected to be more than $1.5 billion and could end up as high as $2.5 billion. Georgia legislators are currently looking for ways to cut the state's spending in order to balance the budget as mandated by the constitution. Charles LeGette (left) and Bobby Jones (right) were program hosts for the day. |
