Union Junction Jamboree set September 27 in Union Point
Uncle Charlie's Southern Style boiled peanuts and pork skins will be available at the annual Union Junction Jamboree. The Union Junction Jamboree's (UJJ) fun zone and food court will offer new rides and food on Saturday, September 27, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in historic downtown Union Point. The Downtown Development Authority and Better Hometown program are working hard to add new rides, food, and events this year.
Two of the new additions to the fun zone are a miniature train ride for the kids and the Union Point Lions Club's BB shooting booth. These two join the pony rides, climbing wall, blow-up slides, obstacle course, and spider jump from last year.
"The new little train with about five wagons is really cute and will take the kids on a ride around town," said Sherley Selman, chairman of the UJJ committee. "And we've also added the BB shooting booth."
The food court will feature returning vendors Jo Williams of Washington and her funnel cakes, the Union Point Garden Club's bake sale, and Roadrunners Catering will serve up BBQ and stew. The Nutty Bavarian from Elberton also returns this year with glazed pecans and nuts. New to the food court is Monticello's Charlie Edwards with his Uncle Charlie's Southern Style boiled peanuts and pork skins, and Jerry Cruce will serve up cool Hawaiian Shaved ice.
The very popular group of model train enthusiasts, the Athens Bend Track Club, returns for the third straight year. This is a modern model railroad based on a modular system, a new concept developed in 1986. The idea is individual modelers can build a section of a railroad which can then be assembled with other modelers' units to form a complete railroad. Members of an Augusta club join the Athens group for this show each year.
Trains are the festival's theme because of the historic connection of the railways and the town.
There will also be "train" rides around historic Union Point in a bus converted to look like a train.
