Mule Day volunteers are meeting at Callaway Plantation today at 5:30 p.m., said Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce Director Ashley Barnett, and more volunteers are needed.

The annual Mule Day Festival, set for October 1, offers draft mule and horse events and contests, primitive demonstrations, food, an arts & crafts show, history, food, prizes and fun for the whole family, Barnett said.

Organizers are looking forward to increased participation from agricultural groups, farm businesses, and other volunteers. "Mule Day was at its best back when it was put on by people who had a heart for farm animals and the farm life. We need those people back involved in Mule Day."

Barnett is working with local individuals, youth groups, and civic groups to take part. "If you are interested in volunteering please let us know," she said, "and students who are looking for volunteer hours, we have work you can do."

To be a part of this annual Chamber event, call the Chamber at 706- 678-2013 or email washcham@ washingtonwilkes.org for more information.
