Mid-term progress reports issued; next ball game is against Thomson
      Mid-term progress reports were sent home September 9. Students and parents who came to the open house on September 8 received their reports early. At the open house, parents voted for members of the Washington- Wilkes Middle School Council. The parents serving this year are Joy Martin, Amy Long, and Joe Nelson, with Beth Hodges as an alternate.

Tigers dominate Redskins, will battle Titans this Friday
      Last weekend the Washington- Wilkes Tigers played the Social Circle Redskins in the first of six consecutive away games. The Tigers triumphed over the Redskins 18-7 after leading 18-0 at halftime. Although Washington-Wilkes won the game, there was an apparent lack of the level of enthusiasm shown in the game versus Thomson.

Tournament honoring Nancy C. Long is set for Oct. 25 at W-WCC
      Hosted by the Eta Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, the Nancy C. Long Golf Tournament - "Playing FORE the Cure" - will be held on Saturday, October 25, at noon at the Washington-Wilkes Country Club. There will be a $50 golfer's fee per player and players may sign up at the Country Club.

Tiger Cross Country runners compete in two meets on the road, will host 4-way on Mon.
      The W-WCHS Cross Country Tigers are off to a running start with team members including Blake Amis, Angela Broome, Jacob Davis, Evan Harrison, Erika Jefferson, Kotey McCall, Joshua McLeroy, John Pope, Nick Reville, Chase Shelton, and Rashida Watson. Middle School Cross Country team members are Dominique Jenkins, Keyunna Reid, and Ivy Safrit.

Lady Tigers lose to Thomson, to begin region play Tuesday
      In the only game they played last week, the W-W Lady Tigers softball team lost to visiting Thomson 7-3. The game was tied 2-2 through five innings when Thomson's big inning came in the sixth scoring four runs on three hits and two BBs.

Head coach outlines season
     Russell Morgan (left) Washington-Wilkes Tigers Head Football Coach and Athletic Director, presented the program at the August meeting of the Optimist Club. The meeting was held at the Fitzpatrick Hotel Down Under Restaurant. Morgan talked about each opponent on the 2008 schedule and gave a quick breakdown of the offense and defense position by position. He also fielded questions from the audience. Ray Hardy (right) was program chairman.
