State rep. reports to Kiwanis
District 116 State Representative Mickey Channell (left) was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, September 16, when he gave members an update on Georgia legislative activities. He said the biggest single item legislators deal with is was passing the state budget. For the 2009 budget of $21 billion, Channell reported that current receipts are down 6.5 percent from last year and 7.0 percent for August alone. This means that the budget is currently 12-14% behind. Channell pointed to the precipitous downturn in the economy at both the state and national level as the problem. Wayne Madden was the program host for the day. |
