The ladies of the Little River Charge of the United Methodist Church gathered on the morning of September 11 to prepare and deliver Hero Cookie Day baskets in remembrance of the September 11, 2001 tragedy.

These ladies have performed this service for our local government agency workers and medical care agency workers for the last several years and have plans to continue this project to remind these special people how important they are in the life of our community and how thankful the citizens of our community are for the assurance that these workers are always present to help in any type of emergency.

Wilkes County is blessed to have so many heroes eager to aid when an emergency occurs. In addition, these good people aid in preventing many emergency situations from occurring before emergency status is reached.

Filling the baskets with homemade goodies is truly a labor of love according to the ladies who participate in the project.

The Little River Charge is composed of Bethel UMC, Mt. Zion UMC and Smyrna UMC. Each church is well represented in this project. Rev. Richard Broom is pastor of the Charge.
