Isn't it wonderful that people now decorate for fall almost as much as at Christmas? All I remember of Halloween when I was a child is the apple bobbing and going trick or treating in a white sheet with holes for the eyes. I remember falling down with that long sheet and couldn't really see with those two holes. Frances Vinson is really decorated for the fall with one of the largest pumpkins I have ever seen. She has two pumpkins but one is very large. I hope Chuck didn't pull a muscle lifting that one! Speaking of fall decorations, I mentioned that Jefferson was scarecrow country. Well that was the wrong town. It is in Hoschton that they have 5,441 scarecrows. There is a sign as you enter the town telling how many scarecrows there are and it will be in the Guinness Book of Records. If we had some gas we would go see them. ƒSpeaking of Halloween, my granddaughters spent Saturday night with us and they almost wore out their new Halloween costumes trying them on and admiring themselves in the mirror. ƒKay Tyler spent Saturday night and part of the day Sunday with the Greg Tyler family in Hoschton. She attended church with them Sunday morning at the First Baptist Church of Winder and they all had lunch together. ƒWe extend sincere sympathy to the family of Lucille Ware Albea, to her husband, Thomas, her daughters, Yvonne and Mimi, and her brother, Donald Ware. I was at the funeral home Friday night and had to stand on the porch at least 30 minutes before getting inside. This shows how much people thought of her. Lucille grew up in the Danburg area and was a member of the Danburg Baptist Church where she will be missed. ƒKaren and Price Rogers visited Donald and Peggy Ware when they came for the funeral of Lucille Albea. Price was an honorary pallbearer. ƒGwin and Cliffy Ware and Jenny of Evans came for Lucille Albea's funeral and also visited with Becky Dixon who attended the funeral with them. ƒKathy Ware is spending this week in Durham, N.C., on a work-related trip. ƒWilbur and Ouida Maney spent Sunday through Monday with their two daughters, Debra Smith and Ruth Strickland, in Conyers. Ruth and Dennis Strickland of California came to take care of renovating the house in Jonesboro that belonged to Dennis' mom. I know Wilbur and Ouida are proud to know that Ruth and Dennis are planning to move into the home in Jonesboro in December. ƒI understand that Whitney Dawson won first runner up and best dressed at the pageant Saturday and Mary Katherine Mack was the third place winner. Congratulations, girls. ƒCarolyn Gammon and Alpha Theta chapter's new president, Judy Coxwell, attended the Delta Kappa Gamma executive board meeting in Macon Saturday. They enjoyed the chatting along the way more than they did the meeting. That may be why they got lost a few times in Macon. ƒMany people from Wilkes County attended the Associational Senior Adult Rally at White Plains Baptist Church on Monday, September 22. Everyone enjoyed the entertainment of Maxie the Preacher's Wife (Elaine Brantley) of Dublin. She could really teach us some tricks in dressing. She says she buys at Good Will. Those from the North Wilkes area attending were Graydon and Pat Bobo, Ed and Edna Rhodes, Louise Harper, Billie Ann Smith, Gloria Ware, Pat Mack, Edna Lamar, Carolyn Gammon, Genevieve Thurmond, Johnny and Billie Carroll, Charles and Mary Brodenax, JoAnn Bailey, Flossie Rhodes, Ellen Bunch and Mary Webster. There were about 85 people present in all.

ƒKathy Robertson of Winder spent Saturday with Vivian and Louie Wolozin. ƒMargaret Fortson spent a week with her friend, Evelyn Ray, in Conover, N.C. She returned home Monday. ƒSpending the weekend with Myrline Thornton were Rudy and Mary Jacobs of Monticello. They came especially for Mary's 40th class reunion Saturday night. I hear they really enjoyed that reunion. Alicia Thornton of Athens has been with Myrline quite a lot over the last week. ƒMary Webster attended a memorial service in Simpsonville, S.C., Saturday for her cousin, Howard Mitchum, who passed away on September 17 in Laurens, S.C. The memorial service was officiated by Dr. Frank Ciampa. After the service, refreshments were served to the family and friends. Howard was buried in Fayette, Alabama, earlier. We extend sympathy to their family, his wife, Lois, and Mary, his cousin. Mary spent the night in Taylors, S.C., with her brother and his wife, Roy and Marian Estes. Their son, Neal, joined them all for supper. They exchanged last year's Christmas presents and birthday presents. I wonder when they will exchange this year's presents. Mary attended church Sunday morning with Roy and Marian and Neal and his family where the flowers placed in the church were in honor of Roy and Marian's 50th wedding anniversary. How many of you have ever heard of a church having a football game on Sunday night where the deacons play against the staffers? Well, that what that church was doing Sunday night. ƒMallorysville Baptist Church had a big crowd at homecoming Sunday and a bountiful supply of food. Some of those out of town people coming back home for this day were Gail Wilson Thomas of Asheville, N.C.; John and Nancy Smith of Watkinsville; Charlie and Debbie McCord, Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Reese and Carroll Burton, all of Thomson; Stacy and Amanda Hilley and Owen of Commerce. Revival services started Sunday night with Rev. Paul Reviere bringing the message each night. The congregation enjoyed the special song brought to them by Karen Saggus. ƒ David and Nancy HIlley spent Wednesday and Thursday nights of last week in Commerce visiting their son and his family, Stacy and Amanda Hilley and Owen. ƒOur 2007-2008 Miss Wilkes County, Gracen Ware, sang at the morning and night pageant last Saturday. Then she crowned the new Miss Wilkes County, Sheena Kopecky, Saturday night Congratulations to Sheena. Gracen says she enjoyed her reign as Miss Wilkes County and she hopes the new Miss Wilkes County will enjoy her reign as much as she did. Gracen did have a very busy year and did a wonderful job.
